About:
What pops in mind when you hear the word “surf”? Blue water, palm trees, perfect waves, and people chilling in hammocks on the beach, strumming guitars?
That classic surf vibe isn’t something most European surfers actually live.
Back in 2018, Paul Zeper had the idea to shake up this cliché. Being a professional windsurfer, sponsored by a few of the big brands it was impossible to find the right fit that matched living in Amsterdam and surfing at one of the most industrial surf spots in the world, Wijk aan Zee. That’s how New Amsterdam Surf Association came to life.
Born right in Amsterdam, New Amsterdam Surf Association blends city life—fashion, music, art—with a crew that shares a deep love for surfing. It’s a “New” wave of surfers who spend more time in cities than at the beach.
Finding that one person with a car and drivers license or collectively hop on the public transport, sometimes with getting kicked off the tram. The struggle to hit the beach is what unites the crew. And all that effort? Just to reach some murky water with a filthy industrial skyline.
That is what New Amsterdam Surf Association is about.
Philosophy:
“New Amsterdam Surf Association represents a certain vibe, it’s for those who don’t require the perfect wave or ideal conditions. It’s for those who like to be challenged.”
